Poha is an easy to make, tasty and healthy breakfast recipe. It is very popular in Maharashtra. Onions, potatoes especially mustard seeds and seasonings like chilies, lemon and curry leaves are used as main ingredients for poha which makes it a tasty and easy meal, especially when you don’t feel like cooking. It is loved by all age groups and is very light to eat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Poha
  • Onion (chopped)
  • Potato (finely chopped)
  • 1/3 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • Curry Leaves
  • Green Chilli (chopped)
  • 1 pinch of Asafoetida
  • 1½ tbsp ground nuts
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1½ tsp Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Oil

Directions

  • Take poha in a large container, wash it properly, drain the water, sprinkle salt and keep aside.
  • Take 2 tbsp of oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, after they start to splutter, add cumin seeds, green chilies, curry leaves, ground nuts and a pinch of asafoetida. and cook them for 30-40 seconds.
  • Now add chopped onions to the pan and cook till it gets golden brown.
  • Then add chopped potatoes and sprinkle a pinch of salt (to cook potatoes properly).
  • Mix well and cook by covering the pan with a lid for the next 3-4 minutes or till potatoes get cooked. (sprinkle some water to the mixture to avoid sticking.)
  • Add turmeric powder to it and cook for another 1 minute.
  • Add the soaked poha to the pan and mix well.
  • Cook the poha for 2-3 minutes. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  • Serve well with tea.
